Stage 2 Breast Cancer
I was diagnosed with stage 2 grade 3 breast cancer a day after celebrating my 6th year wedding anniversary. I was shocked. I was scared. After 5 months of chemo, 20 rounds of radiotherapy, a node clearance, lumpectomy and 18 rounds of herceptin I'm finally able to say I’m in remission.
Since being diagnosed I have constantly spoken up about my journey via diary entries on Instagram. I’ve also started my own charity. I’ve focused a lot recently on mental health as I suffer with chronic anxiety but will always talk about my favorite – fashion – and have done from the the start.
As a singer my treatment made me pause. I had constant writers block. Before I could write a song in a few short hours but a cancer diagnosis didn’t give me any other subject matter but the constant questioning of mortality. I didn’t want to write about that. So I didn’t write a thing. I’m so grateful for my band mate who week in week out sat with me and went at my pace. We are now back writing and performing which I have a new found application for.
